Testing with Students with Disabilities

A common need of students with documented disabilities is additional time on tests. Extending time in BlackBoard assessments can be done by simply editing test options but this creates the issue of adding extra time or other conditions for all students.

Luckily, with the newest version of BlackBoard released on May 17, 2014, each test has a separate Availability Exceptions area that will allow you to add exceptions for individuals or groups of students. While editing Assessment options, you will have a new area for Test Availability Exceptions, where you can choose a student or group to give specific release dates, times, and attempt and completion and options. Simply add your necessary criteria into this section as you are editing your Test Options as you would normally.

For more information on setting up a test in BlackBoard, see our video tutorial library or some of the resources below.

Test Exceptions will override all availability settings on a test except for the checkbox in the settings under the Due Date to disallow students from taking the test after the due date has passed. Be sure that this setting is turned off if you have students taking a test on a date after the original due date was given.
