Tracy Wylie
- Star City
- Elementary Education major who is on schedule to
graduate in December, 2009.
Tracy and her husband are raising four children, and
while she has an associate degree from Purdue University
in Veterinary Technology, wanted a career that more
suited her interests and lifestyle - which led to her
decision to return to school so that she could become
a teacher.
Tracy’s mother and younger sister are PNC graduates
and their positive experiences helped to convince her
to attend PNC to pursue her bachelor’s degree.
She excels in the classroom and maintains a 3.29 grade-point
average, qualifying her for membership in the Kappa
Delta Pi – an international honor society for
education majors. She also earned a 2007 Legends Scholarship,
awarded by the Quality of Life Council and a 2007 Chancellor’s
Leadership Award.
Off campus, Tracy breeds, trains and shows dogs and
is involved with the Indiana 4-H dog program and is
involved in 4-H in Starke and Pulaski counties and the
state fair 4-H dog committee and judges at many local
county fairs and at the Indiana State Fair.
In fact, she says that her entire family is involved
in 4-H to the point that they “eat, breathe and
sleep, 4-H dog competition. “
Tracy has a clear commitment to earn her degree. As
she explains, “I commute over an hour each way
to PNC each day, but I go everyday because I am an overachiever.
I believe that if you start something you have to finish.
Right now my job is to raise my kids and get good grades
so that I can help my family. Yes, there are days when
I am exhausted and don't want to go but I always look
at the big picture – I want a better job so I
can help care for my family.”
