Membership Form

PNCWA Home

Interest groups within PNCWA welcome members with shared hobbies and interests. These groups offer members unique opportunities for friendship, sharing, and learning. The Interest Group Fair at the Fall Luncheon allows all interested persons the opportunity to meet the chairperson of each group, to see group meeting schedules, and to sign up to participate. If you would like to join one of the interest groups below, please contact the appropriate chairperson listed.  Membership in PNCWA is required prior to joining an interest group.

CAMPUS/COMMUNITY SERVICE
Chairperson: Barb Austin, 785-5634, baustin@pnc.edu

The Campus/Community Service Interest Group engages members through meaningful service for responsible citizenship and leadership to help meet campus and community needs. The intent is to have a positive impact on our campus and in our communities. Service projects organized by this group receive the full support and participation of the association. Once the chairs have identified a group to be a recipient, members will be contacted with the details of the group chosen and the need that has been identified.

GARDENING/NATURE
Co-Chairs: Joan Wisniewski, 785-2765, wisniews2@aol.com
Susan Bagby, 872-7126, srbagby@yahoo.com

The Gardening/Nature group meets from April through August.  Members alternate weeks to monitor the fourteen bluebird houses on campus.  At the end of the season, results are tabulated and shared with PNCWA and the Potawatomi Audubon Society.  Last season, we recorded 18 bluebirds, 11 tree swallows, and 16 house wrens that fledged successfully.

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP GROUP
Chairperson: Erica Maar, 477-2683, emaar@verizon.net

The International Friendship Group gathers to celebrate women as they share culture, traditions, and friendship. Local residents, who have emigrated to the U.S. , share stories of their home countries and traditions and talk about life in the United States. Light refreshments are served with each program.

KNITTING & CROCHETING
Chairperson: Judy Back, 462-2225, judyback@comcast.net or 548-3674, jback@pnc.edu

Meets 1st Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at PNC.

The Knitting & Crocheting Interest Group is a service organization with a focus on women and children. We make items for the pediatric and NICU units at our three area hospitals, our local women's shelters and our homeless shelters. Our gatherings are social as we share ideas and patterns. Current projects include: Bootie and Cap sets for preemies and for newborns, Booties for newborns, and Slippers in all children's and women's sizes. All items are donated to hospitals and shelters. We also make 7” x 9” rectangles in any colors and any stitches, knitted or crocheted. These rectangles are then sewn together to make one colorful, patchwork afghan. These are given to families residing in local homeless shelters.

Extra hands are always welcome. We offer lessons and accept donations of scrap yarn. We are also looking for women who sew to help make flannel receiving blankets for the newborns at the hospitals.

LITERALLY SPEAKING
Chairperson: Alicia Brown, 785-5473, aabrown@pnc.edu

This new Interest Group will stimulate your mind and excite your senses. Join us as we share our love for books in a relaxed atmosphere here at PNC every 3rd Friday of each month, where we share our insights, delicious food, and good company.  Meeting time and location will be set after November 16th, so please contact Alicia Brown, to submit your list of favorite books, authors, genres, as well as convenient tmes. Each person is asked to read the book entirely before coming to the meeting, and bring with you three questions you have about the book, or three aspects of the book you would like to explore further. Don't miss out on a great time of experiencing more than just a book club!

SEW BEE IT QUILTERS
Co-Chairpersons: Lynne Reglein, 926-5587, lreglein@msn.com
Marilyn Kaldahl, 325-3370, kaldahl1@comcast.net

Meets 2nd Saturday of each month at 9 a.m. at PNC

Sew Bee It was formed to foster the art of quilting and to encourage, through education, a high standard of design and technique of quilting's various forms. A mentoring program is in place to encourage new quilters and support existing quilters with their projects. At each meeting, members demonstrate techniques and share challenges. Guest speakers, group excursions, community projects, a PNC Quilt Show, and a focus on bringing quilting to the youth of our communities are all part of this group.
