Admission Assessment Exam (HESI A2)

Students who are interested in applying for the Nursing Baccalaureate (BS) Professional Nursing program at PNC are required to complete the Admission Assessment Exam (HESI A2) prior to completing and submitting the Baccalaureate Professional Nursing Program Application for enrollment. The scores of the math and reading sections and the test reports/print-outs from the HESI A2 are a requirement of the nursing program application process.

The HESI A2 examination consists of several different assessments, but the student will only be required to complete the Math Skills and Reading Comprehension sections. To be considered for the Nursing BS program a student is required to score 80% or higher on the math skills and the reading comprehension exams. Applicants can repeat the exam if scores are not satisfactory. Cost of the exam is $80.00 and is non-transferable and non-refundable. The $80.00 exam fee will be charged for every attempt.

  • The Math Skills section consists of approximately 50 problems including, but not limited to: whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio/proportion, metric conversion, Roman numeral conversion, household conversion, military time conversion and story problem solution. An online calculator is available for students to use. Scratch paper will be provided.
  • The Reading Comprehension section consists of approximately 50 questions and involves reading selections and answering questions related to paragraph content and vocabulary.

The HESI A2 is a proctored computer based exam (computer literacy is recommended) taken at PNC’s Westville Campus. It takes approximately 2 hours to complete and the format is both multiple choice and fill-in (short answer) responses.

Testing will be offered throughout the year at the PNC campus on pre-scheduled dates and times. Space is very limited and reservations are required. Students must present a valid form of photo identification on the day of testing. Payments will not be accepted on the date of testing and registrations are not complete until all applicable fees are paid in full to the Office of Graduate and Extended Learning.

Specific testing dates and registration deadline information can be obtained by contacting the Office of Graduate and Extended Learning at (219) 785-5343 or by visiting the GEL website.
