A2 HESI Admission Exam

Students Applying to the Nursing Program:

Students having a GPA of 2.5 or higher applying to the BS nursing program at PNC need to complete the Health Education Systems, Inc. Admission Assessment Exam (HESI A2): Prior to completing NUR 218 in semester 2 of the PRE-PROFESSIONAL NURSING PROGRAM Plan of Study.

It is important to succeed well with this exam. This exam may be repeated if the test taker is not satisfied with the initial results. Students must pass the Math and Reading Comprehension with a 75% or higher.

The HESI A2 examination consists of several different assessments, but the student will only be required to complete the Math Skills, Reading Comprehension, and Critical Thinking sections. The student is required to complete prior to consideration for admission into the nursing program.

The HESI A2 is administered (at Prometric Testing Centers) on a computer (computer literacy is recommended). It takes approximately 3 hours to complete and the format is both multiple choice and fill in (short answer) responses. There is a fee associated with this exam. Currently this exam fee is $85.00.

The Math Skills section consists of approximately 50 problems including, but not limited to: whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio/proportion, metric conversion, roman numeral conversion, household conversion, military time conversion and story problem solution. An online calculator is available for students to use. Scratch paper will be provided.

The Reading Comprehension section consists of approximately 50 questions and involves reading selections and answering questions related to paragraph content and vocabulary.

The Department of Nursing does not endorse a product for HESI A2 preparation, but there are many available.
