Purdue University North Central Communication majors have a new academic option and may choose a concentration in Media.
The PNC Department of Communication offers Communication majors two concentrations, Media, along with a Public Relations concentration that was approved earlier this summer.
The Media concentration offers students course work that will teach the essentials for careers in television production, newspaper and online journalism, online publishing, television reporting, corporate production, advertising, magazine journalism and film.
The coursework includes Writing for Mass Media, Digital Production, Mass Media Law, Mass Media Ethics, New Media/Social Media and internships in Media.
Students will learn about topics that include internet video, video pre & post production, newsgathering, legal precedents of media, ethical constraints, social media, advertising and media literacy.
In addition, students will be eligible to complete internships as part of the concentration while earning college credit and building their portfolios.
