Detailed herein are some additional services we offer at no charge to students and faculty/staff members at Purdue North Central.
DVD Transfer

Media Services can transfer non-copyrighted video to DVD for use within the university. For information on applicable copyright laws, please visit the Purdue University Copyright Office web page. We can transfer video from VHS tapes (top-left of photo), VHS-C tapes (middle), and miniDV tapes (bottom). The student or faculty/staff member must provide one blank DVD (DVD-R or DVD+R format) for each copy requested.
Overhead Transparency Digitizing
We can digitize 8 1/2" x 11" overhead transparencies for use within Microsoft Powerpoint, as an image file, or as an Adobe PDF file. We provide this service free of charge, but bear in mind that the process is very time-consuming, so please give us approximately one day for every 20 pages you need converted.
As with converting video, it is the responsibility of the student/staff member to abide by all copyright laws. For further information, please visit the Purdue University Copyright Office web page.
Filming
Media Services staff members can be available to film classes and events. We use high quality video cameras, and we can edit video clips and add titles or credits after filming. Finished videos will be put on a DVD. You must provide as many blank DVDs as you want copies of the final product. DVDs can be purchased in the PNC bookstore, as well as at major retailers everywhere. Make sure the blank DVDs you purchase are labeled either DVD-R or DVD+R. Do not purchase DVD-RW or DVD+RW discs.
Due to the nature of video editing, post-production can be a lengthy process, depending on how involved the studio work is. Adding credits and splicing scenes takes time and effort, and depending on how busy the time of year it may take us between a day and one week to finish a single DVD. If all that is needed is just the video file in its original format, without any credits or titles, it should only take about a day for us to get one copy of the DVD.
Media Services personnel are generally able to film events that take place during our office hours, which are posted on the Media Services home page. We need plenty of notice to ensure that our office can be covered before we will agree to film an event. If an event occurs outside of our office hours, filiming will be subject to staff availability, and the department sponsoring the event will need to arrange the filming with us farther in advance.
