PNC Photo ID Cards

Media Services

In order to maintain a universal method of readily identifying Purdue North Central students, staff, and faculty members, the university issues identification cards on a two-year schedule. Incoming students and staff are required to get an ID card when they begin taking classes or working at PNC.

The card serves as proof of an individual's affiliation with PNC.  On the front of the card is a photo of the cardholder, the cardholder's name, and the his/her status with the university (e.g. "Student").  The back of the card has a magnetically encoded stripe which contains the cardholder's name and PUID number.

Student ID Cards

Student ID Student ID cards are issued to undergraduate, graduate, and dual credit students at PNC. To obtain a Student ID card, a student must be enrolled in the university and have his/her account current. Bring your driver's license or other state-issued ID card with you when you get your Student ID. You will be asked to present a license or alternate proof of identity before you will be issued a PNC ID card. We may ask you to verify personal information if the type of ID you bring does not have your photo on it.

As of the 2009/2010 school year, Student ID cards can be used for checking out books from the library, as well as to demonstrate that you are a student at Purdue University North Central. There are also many local businesses that offer discounts for Purdue students, including major cell phone carriers, restaurants, and movie theatres.

We are currently exploring some of the other ways these cards may be used, including as a debit card onto which students can load cash and use in the cafeteria, coffee shop, or bookstore.

Faculty/Staff ID Cards

Faculty/Staff IDFor the purpose of the PNC ID card program, faculty and staff are those individuals who are employed part-time or full-time as professors, administrative/professional staff, or clerical/service staff. Student employees are not eligible to receive Faculty/Staff ID cards. The card has the faculty/staff member's PUID number printed on its face, which is useful to have when accessing benefits or payroll information. Faculty/Staff ID cards have a gold stripe along the side to distinguish them from other cards.

Other Types of ID Cards

In addition to the two major types of Photo ID cards we issue, there are two other kinds. Nursing Student ID cards distinguish students who are enrolled in the Nursing program at PNC from others and allows them access to hospitals and other places where it is important they be identified by their program. To receive a Nursing Student ID card, students must meet all of the requirements for a traditional Student ID card as well as provide a copy of their current schedule of classes. The other type of ID card is available for PNC employees who are members of CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams). Like Student ID cards, Nursing Student ID cards and CERT cards have a black stripe along the side.

Expiration

While PNC Photo ID cards do not have an expiration date printed on them, they are considered to be valid until two years after the issue date. To receive a new ID card once yours has reached its expiration, bring the old one to the Media Services department to trade it in for a new one free of charge. If you no longer have your old card, or if you lose it before its expiration, you must pay a $10 replacement fee to receive another. Payments can be made in the Bursar's office (Schwarz 127), where you will be given a receipt which we then collect.

Card Care

Please protect your card from damage or wear by placing it in your wallet or in a card pouch. Several options for carrying ID cards are available in the bookstore. Do not punch holes in the card--doing so can lead to damage and will render it invalid. Protect the magnetically encoded information by keeping the card away from magnetic fields, including those generated by TVs, stereo speakers, personal computers, etc. Photo ID cards shall not be defaced or modified in any way. The use of stickers, pins, or other items affixed to ID cards is prohibited to preserve their useful life.

PNC ID Card Policies

The PNC ID Card is and at all times shall remain the property of Purdue University North Central. It may be revoked at any time by the University if misused, and must be presented or returned upon request by an appropriate University official. All cardholders must have their pictures displayed on their ID cards.

The information contained on and in the ID card, including but not limited to the picture, will not be released to persons outside the University unless required by law, in response to a court order or subpoena, or upon the execution of a written release signed by the cardholder.
