LCD Smart Carts

LCD Multimedia Cart
1 | 2

The LCD Smart Carts provide the same functionality found in the campus's Smart Classrooms in a portable package. The cart includes a DVD/VHS player and PC with internet connection, all connected to a compact yet powerful speaker. For presentations, the carts include a wireless mouse. For convenience, we have attached a USB Extension cable which is mounted next to the LCD projector for USB flash drivers or other USB devices. We have five LCD Smart Carts available; four of the carts include a monitor (shown in photo 1), while the fifth cart is slightly taller and has no monitor (shown in photo 2).

The LCD Smart Carts will also accept video from a laptop in case of specific needs the included PC cannot meet. If you would like to use a laptop with the projector, please let us know ahead of time so that we can ensure that the equipment is setup properly.

NOTE: As of March 30th, 2007, all LCD Smart Carts are equipped with anti-theft security devices. These devices, called Sonic Shock alarms, emit a piercing sound if the LCD is removed from the cart. If you hear the alarm, please contact us at Extension 5270 if it is between the hours of 7:30 am and 7:30 pm. If it is before or after those times, please contact Campus Police at 5220.

Document Camera

Document Camera
1 | 2

The Document Camera transmits a live video signal to an LCD projector or computer monitor. It can be used to display books and magazines as well as three dimensional objects. Please be advised that the Document Camera requires either a Smart Classroom or an LCD Smart Cart. We have one Document Camera available. Click here for a list of potential uses.

TV with VCR/DVD

TV with VCR/DVD

We have two sizes of TVs available, 27" and 36". Both include a DVD/VCR combo unit.
While the 36" TV provides a better picture it also carries a larger footprint and may not be the best choice for some of the smaller classrooms. We have three 36" and seven 27" televisions available.

Video Camera (VHS, DVD, mini DV)

Video Camera
1 | 2

We have two types of video cameras available, VHS and mini DV

The VHS cameras are mounted on carts that include a small monitor and they are what we currently use for in-class filming. They record directly to standard VHS cassettes. The maximum recording length for the VHS cameras is approximately 2 hours. We have two VHS Camera Carts available.

The mini DV cameras are mounted on standard tripods and they are what we currently use for filming events on campus. They can also be checked out by students for class projects. They feature a 2 1/2" fold-out LCD viewfinder as shown in Photo 1 above. They record to mini DV cassettes, and the footage can be easily transferred to a PC via the built in Firewire connection. The maximum recording length for the mini DV cameras is approximately 83 minutes. We have three mini DV cameras available.

Starting in 2007 we will begin offering a new video camera cart which will record onto DVDs rather than VHS tapes. These carts will feature a hard disk camcorder connected a DVD recorder (for detailed operating instructions please contact us to set up an appointment). For the time being we will still support either VHS or DVD camera cart requests, however beginning with the Spring 2008 Semester we will no longer deliver VHS camera carts unless by special request.

Audio (PA, Speaker, CD Player, Tape Recorder)

Audio Equipment

AV/Media Services has audio equipment to suite virtually any purpose. For large engagements we have a full PA System which can be set with up to four speakers, wired or wireless microphones, and a multi-disc CD player. For smaller events or classes, we have portable speakers that can be connected to any audio source, be it microphones, CD players, or MP3 players. We also have tape recorders for capturing meetings or special events.

We are currently reviewing equipment options for podcasting. We are very interested in hearing any interest or suggestions from faculty, staff, and students, so feel free to email us at avdept@pnc.edu.

Miscellaneous Equipment

Miscellaneous Equipment

AV/Media Services maintains the overhead projectors found in most classrooms. We have two extra projectors on hand if one is needed in a room that doesn't contain one, or if a second projector is needed. If you notice a burnt-out bulb in an overhead projector, please let us know so that we can replace it in a timely fashion.

For locations without projector screens where the LCD is used, we have portable screens in a variety of sizes.

Also for presentations, we have one flip chart with paper, dry erase board, and markers.
