Information for Faculty

Academic oversight for the Honors Program rests with the Honors Program Subcommittee of the Educational Policy Committee of the Purdue University North Central Faculty Senate.  The program coordinator is Dr. Heather Fielding, Assistant Professor of English (hfieldin@pnc.edu).  Dr. Rex Morrow, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, is the administrator responsible for the program.  He can be reached at rmorrow@pnc.edu or 219-785-5680.

To propose an honors course, a full-time faculty member fills out a course proposal form similar to the university curriculum form.  If it is a new course, or if the honors course involves any change to existing course objectives, then a university curriculum form must additionally be filled out and submitted through the usual procedures.  Honors forms are reviewed by departments, by the Honors Program Subcommittee, and are approved by the Faculty Senate.  Forms may be submitted at any time during the academic year, ordinarily September through April, effective for the following academic semester.  For examples of successful proposals, or questions about the procedure, email honorsprogram@pnc.edu.

If you are interested in mentoring an honors student, you should also email honorsprogram@pnc.edu.  Mentors are responsible for meeting once a month with the honors student, discussing progress at PNC, plans for the future, and generally giving advice and support to the student.
