Workshop for Beginner and Intermediate Users of Microsoft Excel 2013

The Purdue University North Central Office of Graduate and Extended Learning and Department of Computer and Information Technology will offer a non-credit workshop series for beginner and intermediate users of Microsoft Office’s Excel 2013 software. This program, which will be taught by an instructor with 11 years of experience at the PNC, as well as 20 years of management experience in an office environment, will introduce basic concepts and techniques for using the software in personal and business applications.

What will participant learn about?

  • Finding and opening the program
  • Explanation of workbooks and worksheets
  • Explanation of cells, rows, columns and tabs
  • Opening an existing workbook
  • Navigation of Excel’s File, Home, Page Layout and View Ribbons
  • Explanation of save and save as
  • Setting Properties for the worksheet
  • Using the Print menu
  • Creation of a new workbook
  • Basic page setup
  • Normal view, Page Layout view, and Page Break view
  • Entering data into cells
  • Spell Check
  • Basic cell formatting
  • Cut/Copy/Past/AutoFill
  • Basic cell merging
  • Highlighting cells
  • Clearing contents of cells
  • Cell dragging/moving
  • Borders
  • Basic formula, including AutoSum
  • Formulas toolbar
  • Printing worksheets to fit on a page
  • Creating basic charts
  • Inserting, copying and deleting worksheets
  • Hiding and unhiding columns
  • Freezing columns or rows
  • Find and Replace
