Verification Procedures

Verification is a process that is done as a quality control initiative by the Department of Education to “verify” accuracy of submitted FAFSA's. Students are selected for this process at random by the Department of Education. PNC DOES NOT SELECT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE TO BE VERIFIED. The following steps need to be followed during the verification process.

1. You receive a letter from the Financial Aid Office telling you that you are selected for verification. The notification will request the following documents.

A.  Signed copies of the Federal taxes used to file the current year FAFSA. If you are an independent you will need to provide the taxes for yourself and spouse if married. If you are a dependent student as determined by the FAFSA you will need to provide copies of yours and your parents Federal taxes. Federal taxes consist of the 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ.

B.  A completed verification form that will be supplied by the Financial Aid Office at PNC. There are two separate forms, one for dependents, and one for independents. You may access these forms at www.pnc.edu/financialaid/forms.htm

C.  Copies of the W-2's of both the student and parent that were used to complete the taxes.

2. Once the verification information is submitted, the process takes normally 10 business days to complete. During high volume times, the process could take longer, so respond to the verification requests immediately.

3. To check the status of your verification process and needed/satisfied verification requirements:

A.  Go to www.pnc.edu/financialaid/

B.  On the right side of the page under Financial Aid Resources , Click “Banner Financial Aid”

C.  Click “Proceed to My PNC Banner”

D.  Login with Banner ID and password

E.  Click “Financial Aid”

F.  Click “Financial Aid Status”

G.  Choose correct award year and submit

H. Click “Student Requirements”, at this point you will be able to see if there any outstanding verification requirements left to complete. If there are requirements needing to be satisfied, the verification process is not yet completed. If the “Student Requirements” is not available the process is complete. You may either wait for an Award Notification Letter to be sent to you, or to expedite the process you may stop in the office.
