Financial Aid Awarding for 2013-14
Financial aid awarding for 2013-14 has begun for newly admitted freshman. Awards for all other students will begin in late May after spring 2013 grades are complete and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) statuses have been updated. Students with financial aid awards ready to be reviewed will be notified by email.
To view your awards go to Self-Service Banner (SSB) via myPNC and click on the Award Information link. If you have not yet been awarded our office may need additional documentation from you. Be sure to review your Overall Status of Financial Aid within Self-Service Banner (SSB) to check for important messages regarding your financial aid.

Submit your 2013-14 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov. Priority filing deadline for 2013-14: March 10, 2013
Filing the FAFSA for 2013-14 is now easier than ever! If you have already filed your (your parents) 2012 Federal Tax Return, you may give permission on your FAFSA to have your (your parents) tax information downloaded directly to the FAFSA by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
- By doing this you will no longer have to provide a copy of your Federal Tax Return to the Financial Aid Office
- If you choose not to do this, you may have to provide an IRS Tax Transcript from the IRS to the Financial Aid Office. Federal Tax Returns are no longer acceptable documentation for financial aid purposes.
- The FAFSA may be completed with estimated tax information in order to meet Purdue University North Central’s March 10 priority filing date.
Need help filing your FAFSA? Attend College Goal Sunday at PNC on February 24 from 2 – 4 pm, Technology Building, Room 265 or stop by during our Financial Aid Weekend on March 2, 9am – 6pm and March 3, 9am – 3pm, Technology Building, Room 265.
Summer 2013 Financial Aid at Purdue University North Central
The Financial Aid Office will begin determining summer aid eligibility on April 1, 2013 for students who are registered for the summer term. You will automatically be considered for financial aid for the summer. A separate financial aid application for the summer is not required. Learn more about Summer 2013 Aid.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
Student’s Satisfactory Academic Progress status for summer 2013 will be updated by Tuesday, May 21, 2013. You will receive an email sent to your PNC Email and personal email address letting you know when your status has been updated for the spring 2013 semester. A message will also be posted to self-service Banner (SSB) related to your status. Students placed in an “Ineligible” status will also receive notification via U.S. Mail. Students with extenuating circumstances beyond their control may submit an appeal to the Financial Aid Office explaining their circumstances. The priority submission deadline for an appeal is Monday, June 3, 2013.
Both Federal statues and U.S. Department of Education regulations require institutions of higher education to establish minimum standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress for students receiving federal aid. In addition, all state program regulations (Frank O’Bannon Grant, Twenty-First Century Scholars, etc.) require students to meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress criteria established for federal student aid. Financial Aid Deferment Option for Summer 2013
You have a responsibility to pay for the classes for which you are registered by the Summer 2013 payment deadline. If you have submitted your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and released your FAFSA to Purdue University North Central for the 2012-13 academic year, but your awards are not yet finalized you can choose to do one of the following in order to guarantee your course registration for Summer 2013.
- Pay your bill in full via cash, check, or credit card for Summer 2013 and receive a partial or full refund once your financial aid has been processed, based on your financial aid eligibility,
- OR Sign up for the Installment Plan and pay the down payment and all additional payments until your financial aid has been processed and you no longer owe a balance,
- OR Apply for a financial aid deferment.
A financial aid deferment:
- Represents a commitment on your part to pay for the classes for which you are registered
- Guarantees your enrollment (saves your classes)
- Extends the time you may need to complete your financial aid file and pay the outstanding balance due on your account, if any, after your financial aid has been posted to your account
- Allows time for your financial aid application (FAFSA) to be processed
Steps to Completing a Financial Aid Deferment
Step 1: Meet with a counselor in Tech 157 to complete a Financial Aid Deferment form
Step 2: To be eligible for a financial aid deferment all of the following must be true:
- FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) received by Purdue University North Central for 2012-13
- No HOLDS exist on your account
- No outstanding balance exists for any previous semester at Purdue University North Central
- No refunds are owed to Purdue University North Central
- No student loan in a default status
- Meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements
- Admitted to a financial aid eligible major
- Financial Aid file is complete
- Enrollment has been confirmed
Step 3: Attend classes and continue to work closely with the Financial Aid Office so that your financial aid eligibility can be determined
Spring 2013 Financial Aid Information
Looking for a stress free holiday this year? Make sure you have completed the following items in preparation for spring 2013!
- Register for your spring 2013 classes
- Confirm the status of your financial aid for spring 2013
- Confirm your enrollment for spring 2013
- Make payment arrangements for any balance remaining on your account that is not covered by your financial aid by the spring 2013 fee payment deadline of December 21, 2012.
- Check your Satisfactory Academic Progress status for spring 2013 the week of December 24, 2012. Should your status change to “ineligible” you are responsible for payment of your bill in full. You may appeal an “ineligible” status

Student Cost of Attendance Survey
Students are being asked to complete a Student Cost of Attendance Survey to assist the Financial Aid Office in identifying the types and amounts of expenses facing our students. Data from this survey will be used to determine Student Cost of Attendance budgets for the 2013-14 academic year.

Communications from the Financial Aid Office

In an effort to become more efficient, improve overall operations, and protect valuable resources, we have moved from paper to electronic communications for the majority of our communications with students. Therefore, on a DAILY basis, it is VERY IMPORTANT for students to do the following:
- Check your PNC email and your personal email (as provided by you on your FAFSA) for important messages from our office.
- Check Self-Service Banner for important messages and to review any documents that may be required from you at this time.
- Check the Financial Aid home page on a regular basis for helpful information.

FAFSA Data Load and Verification for 2012-2013
The Financial Aid Office continues to load student FAFSA data into the student information system and requesting information and/or documents from students to complete their financial aid file for 2012-13.
Check Self-Service Banner DAILY to monitor your financial aid status and watch for emails from the Financial Aid Office sent to your PNC email address and your personal email address as provided on your FAFSA.
