Dr. Papannareddy was born in Bangalore, India.  He received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in electronics from Bangalore University, India, in 1975.  After a year of undergraduate teaching at R. V. College of Engineering, he joined the Indian Space Research Organization Satellite Center, Bangalore, where he worked as an engineer in the area of test and evaluation of satellite RF and microwave communication systems.  In 1983, he received an M.S.E.E. degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and in 1987, he received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas.  His doctoral thesis work was related to the analysis and characterization of semiconductor lasers in optical communication systems.  In 1988, he joined Purdue University North Central as an Assistant Professor in the Technology and Engineering Section.  In 1993, Dr. Papannareddy was promoted to the rank of associate professor with tenure, and in 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Professor.  His teaching interests include circuit theory, signals and systems, analog electronics, R.F. and microwave  communications, digital signal processing, and lightwave communications. During 2001-2002, he worked in the fiber optic industry (on leave of absence) in the areas of HFC/CATV transmission systems at ARRIS International, Atlanta and 40G long-haul DWDM transmission systems at CIENA Corporation, Maryland.

Dr. Papannareddy has contributed several conference and journal papers in the area of lightwave communication systems and he has published two textbooks on lightwave communication systems including a book chapter on coherent optical communications.  His current research interests include lightwave transmitters and receivers, modeling and characterization of lightwave systems, fiber optic networks, and BER performance analysis, simulation, and measurements. Dr. Papannareddy also contributed to engineering education at the undergraduate level and he has developed a mircrocomputer-based electronic instrumentation laboratory for circuits and electronics courses with the support of a U.S. National Science Foundation grant. Dr. Papannareddy has presented papers related to engineering education at several ASEE conferences.  He has reviewed textbooks, conference, and journal publications; and he has moderated conference sessions. Dr. Papannareddy is a senior member of IEEE and belongs to many other professional societies.
