Program Educational Objectives
Graduates of the Associate of Science Degree in Building Construction Management Technology program will be able to satisfy the objectives described below. These objectives have been developed to prepare students to be a successful participant in a very challenging construction industry and are formatted to meet the requirements of Criterion 2 for ABET accredited programs. Students shall:
- Have developed a thorough understanding of the construction process sufficient to enter the construction industry and continue to advance in it or into any related field including surveying, and computer aided drafting & design.
- Have the necessary technical skills to evaluate materials and methods for construction projects and to read and understand plans and specifications.
- Possess the required skills to utilize modern surveying instruments and methods for site analysis and construction layouts.
- Have the knowledge and mathematical skills for determining forces & stresses in elementary structural systems.
- Understand the basics of the material and labor components of construction as well as the professional, ethical, and social responsibilities involved in construction estimating. Have the knowledge and ability to determine quantities of materials and the cost involved in installing them. Students shall be able to prepare a construction estimate using an estimating software package.
- Have the ability to use industry related software to solve technical problems.
