Engineering Technology Careers
Engineering technology is the profession in which knowledge of mathematics and natural sciences, gained through higher education, experience, and practice is devoted primarily to the implementation and extension of existing technology for the betterment of society. Engineering technology education focuses primarily on the applied aspects of engineering and science, aimed at preparing graduates for practice in that portion of the technological spectrum closest to industrial practice and engineering operations.
Engineering Technology Degree Program
Graduates of engineering technology programs are expected to acquire knowledge, develop abilities to apply what they learn, and assess outcomes of their work. They must be able to think critically and communicate clearly and precisely, in both written and oral formats. Graduates will develop competence in scientific and quantitative reasoning and an awareness of the social, cultural, political, and economic forces that shape the world in which they interact.
The Department of Engineering Technology offers degree programs at the bachelor of science and associate of science level in construction technology, electrical and computer engineering technology, engineering technology, and mechanical engineering technology. Numerous certificate programs are offered for students and professionals to update their skills.
The Mission of the Engineering Technology Department at Purdue University North Central is to deliver career-enhancing educational opportunities to traditional and non-traditional students at the undergraduate and continuing education levels. Our programs are designed for those with hands-on aptitude and an orientation towards the application of engineering technology. The curricula we deliver integrate extensive hands-on laboratory experiences with an appropriate level of theory and cover subject matter in the technical discipline, mathematics, science, and general education.
