INDIANA TESTING REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSING

Praxis I: Academic Skills Assessments Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST) and Praxis II: Subject Assessments/Specialty Area Tests Information Sheet

WHY IS TESTING REQUIRED?

The Indiana legislature mandates that all applicants for the initial Indiana teaching license must complete testing. The Indiana Professional Standards Board, the licensing agency for Indiana, has validated the Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST-Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) and the Praxis II Subject Assessments/Specialty Area Tests (knowledge of teaching areas) for use as the state mandated licensing exams.

DO THE TESTS HAVE TO BE RETAKEN?

If the PPST was completed, and scores were obtained that meet the State licensing requirements, the tests do not need to be retaken. Only tests that were not passed at the higher scores have to be retaken.
