Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education

Purdue University North Central offers a program of study which leads to a degree in Secondary Education. It is conveniently close to home, affordable, and unique in its numerous classroom experiences offered throughout the entire program. Since Middle School and High School teachers in the STEM disciplines of Math and Science are in high demand in Indiana as well as in many other states, the PNC Secondary Education program content areas fulfill a high need in the northwest region of Indiana . Candidates who successfully complete the appropriate plan of study also will be eligible for Indiana initial teaching licenses in one or more of the following: Adolescence/Young Adulthood for Life Sciences, Physical Science, Chemistry, Physics, and/or Physics & Math, which would qualify them to teach Grades 5-12 in their specific content area(s).

The general plan of study for Secondary Education consists of:

  1. General education requirements
  2. Requirements for the Education major
  3. Requirements for the Math and/or Science content area(s)
  4. Electives courses to bring the total credits to 120-132

Graduates of the Purdue University North Central Secondary Education program become effective educators, committed to continuous growth and school reform. They will be literate in their specific content area(s) and have knowledge, skills, and dispositions to help diverse students become successful young adults. The PNC Secondary Education program is designed to meet the outcomes of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
