The Educator Preparation Provider at Purdue University North Central is currently accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) the new, sole specialized accreditor for educator preparation. This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs on the PNC campus. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses that we offer to P-12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes. PNC has been accredited since 2006.
The mission of CAEP is accountability and improvement of educator preparation. The accreditation process establishes rigorous standards for educator preparation programs, holds accredited institutions accountable for providing continuous evidence of meeting these standards, and encourages unaccredited schools to demonstrate the quality of their programs by working for and achieving professional accreditation.
The CAEP standards used in our current Professional Education Unit include:
- Standard 1: Content and Pedagogical Knowledge
- Standard 2: Clinical Partnerships and Practice
- Standard 3: Candidate Quality, Recruitment, and Selectivity
- Standard 4: Program Impact
- Standard 5: Provider Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement
