Enhanced Quality of Teacher Preparation
Gate system for students
admitted prior to Fall 2006
Gate system Fall 2006
The new system of
standards and assessments has been designed by faculty over the past few years
to better prepare candidates to meet the demands of today’s schools.
Successful
completion of Praxis I and Praxis II will be required
prior to program completion. All students are encouraged to complete the state licensing
test requirements prior to student teaching.
The gate system provides critical checkpoints ensuring candidates will be better prepared to teach K-6 students.
This system also ensures that Purdue University North Central candidates can be
licensed in Indiana.
State
mandates and Purdue University North Central initiatives provide for higher quality teacher preparation
than ever before by:
·
placing emphasis on outcomes, that
is, what teacher candidates must know and
be able to do; and
·
requiring candidates to
demonstrate competence not only by earning satisfactory grades and a degree, but
also by meeting additional standards for performances, knowledge, and
dispositions related to teaching strong content to all learners.
All teacher education candidates must complete the
Praxis I (PPST) and Praxis II tests with
the following scores:
