Admission to Elementary Education Minimum Requirements

6 semesters academic math

4 semesters lab science
-
8 semesters English
-
4 semesters Foreign Language (effective fall 2004)

Upper half of graduating class
-
SAT or ACT

The following prerequisites must be met before
enrolling in Education courses:

Must have completed 24 credit hours
-
Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
-
Must have completed Math 137 & 138/139
-
Must have completed Biology 205 & 206
-
Must have completed English 101
Prerequisites for each Block (the new "gates" system):
All "ED" courses must be completed
with a grade of "C" or better while maintaining a "Professional
GPA " of 3.0
Professional GPA -
The grade point average of all "ED" courses
Signature Form: The student's signature
acknowledges the following:

will read the Elementary Education information on this web
site, referring to it regularly in order to remain informed of standards and
responsibilities to the Teacher Education Program process.

will check their PNC email on a regular basis (all
correspondence/announcements from the Education Department is sent via PNC
email accounts)

Limited Criminal
History Reports are required throughout the teacher education
program for field experiences and a report will be required for
licensing.

Purdue University
North Central will check Zachary's Law Registry periodically.

The Indiana
Division of Professional Standards will review misdemeanor/felony
convictions.

These prerequisites apply to anyone who has not been admitted into Teacher
Education (approved for methods courses) by August 1, 2002. Find where you are
in the sequence to see what your requirements are. Particularly pay attention
to the need for the PPST scores before enrolling in BLOCK II (allow enough time
for advance registration)!!
Repeating courses: Education courses (EDCI, EDFA, EDPS) may be repeated
once if the grade earned was D or F. A grade of C may NOT be repeated.
