Suggested Teaching Schedule

 

Please keep in mind that this is only a suggested time line. Open communication and negotiation regarding take over is expected. There are no set requirements in terms of hours or days of teaching time. Please work out the best schedule for your unique situation.

 

Week 1

One-on-one/small group sessions, participative observation, become familiar with student records/case histories and school routine, help prepare instructional material, confer with Cooperative Teacher, first visit from University Supervisor

 

Week 2

More small group and/or increased one-on-one instruction, some large group instruction, participate in planning instruction with your Cooperative Teacher, prepare for increased teaching load

 

Week 3 

More small group and large group instruction, increase teaching load, assume some supervision, identify target behavior for classroom/behavior management plan, discuss this with Cooperative Teacher, continue cooperative planning with Cooperative Teacher

 

Week 4

Increase teaching load, you should now be teaching about 75% of the time, reflect on your management plan and continue to discuss this with your Cooperative Teacher, assume more supervision of the class

 

Week 5

“Solo” week (responsibility for full day instruction each day), confer daily with Cooperative Teacher, continue implementation of management plan

 

Weeks 6-13

Continue as in Week 5, responsibility for all day instruction of the students; continue to confer daily with Cooperative Teacher about teaching responsibilities, goals for your students and your management plan

 

Week 14

Teaching load decreases to where you are teaching about 75% of the time as you begin to transfer back the subjects that you were teaching to your Cooperative Teacher

 

Week 15

Teaching load decreases further to where you are teaching about 50% of the time, continue to confer with your Cooperative Teacher, perhaps arrange visits to other classrooms for the purpose of observation.

 

Week 16

Teaching load decreases further to where you will be teaching only about 25% of the time as you give more classes back to your Cooperative Teacher, by the end of the week, you may be teaching very little of the subject areas, arrange visits to other classrooms for observation
