Program requirements

 

A Signature Form must be completed before participating in Block courses.

Signature Form: The student's signature acknowledges the following:

  • will read the Elementary Education information on this web site, referring to it regularly in order to remain informed of standards and responsibilities to the Teacher Education Program process. 

  • will check their PNC email on a regular basis (all correspondence/announcements from the Education Department is sent via PNC email accounts)

  • Limited Criminal History Reports are required throughout the teacher education program for field experiences and a report will be required for licensing.

  • Purdue University North Central will check Zachary's Law Registry periodically.

  • The Indiana Division of Professional Standards will review misdemeanor/felony convictions.

Requirements

Gate 1:

Admission to Education Program (High School Requirements)

  • Cumulative GPA =>2.5/4.0

  • An Indiana Core 40 or Academic Honors high school diploma, or equivalent

  • Class Rank in the upper 1/2

  • A scholastic aptitude test score of 1400 on the SAT or 20 on the ACT

Gate 2:

Admission to Professional Education (Before enrollment in Block II)

  • Teacher Education Application

  • Cumulative GPA =>2.5

  • Professional GPA =>2.8

  • Praxis I – scores at Indiana pass level.

  • Field experience evaluation with all indicators at the appropriate developmental level.

  • Each Key Assignment from Block I at Basic level or above.

  • Acceptable Portfolio.

Gate 3:

Admission to Student Teaching (Before enrollment in Block VI)

  • Cumulative GPA =>2.8

  • Professional GPA =>3.0

  • Praxis II – scores at Indiana pass level.

  • Field experience evaluation with all indicators at the appropriate developmental level.

  • Each Key Assignment from Blocks II, III, IV, and V at the "Basic" level or above.

  • Acceptable Portfolio.

Gate 4:

Graduation Requirements

  • Cumulative GPA =>2.8

  • Professional GPA =>3.0

  • Student Teaching Evaluation – 90% of indicators met at "Learning" or above, with no indicators at unsatisfactory.

  • All program requirements completed.

  • Acceptable Portfolio.

Gate 5: Recommendation for Licensure

  • All program requirements met including state pass level on Praxis I and II.

  • Application forms completed.
