EARLY CHILDHOOD ADDITION TO THE UNDERGRADUATE

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION TEACHING LICENSE

 

 

 

The Education Department is pleased to provide you with another opportunity for an addition to your K – 6 teaching license. We have been approved by The Division of Professional Standards to offer the Generalist: Early Childhood addition to the teaching license. With this addition, you will be qualified to teach in prekindergarten settings. The requirements for adding the PreK License to your Elementary Education program include:

 

  • Completion of the Elementary Education program, including the Social Science selective, PSY 235 Child Psychology OR CDFS 211.

 

  • Completion of the following 18 credit hours:


EDPS 236: Developmental Theory and Practice in Early Childhood Education (3 cr. hours)

Prerequisites: PSY 235 or CDFS 211

 

EDCI 310: Literacy and the Young Child (3 cr. hours)

 

EDCI 371: Integrated Curriculum in Early Childhood: Creative and Affective Domains (3 cr. hours)

Prerequisite: EDPS 236

 

EDCI 372Integrated Curriculum in Early Childhood: Cognitive Domains (3 cr. hours)

Prerequisite: EDPS 236

 

EDCI 470Practicum and Seminar in Early Childhood Programs (6 cr. hours)

Prerequisites: EDCI 310, EDCI 371, EDCI 372

This is the practicum and will be available to take during the summer semester (beginning in 2008) as we will have sites at which to place students.

 

  • Letter of intent for application for the Generalist: Early Childhood license addition must be submitted to the Education Department prior to enrolling in EDCI 371 and/or EDCI 372.
