Elementary Education DISPOSITIONS

Dispositions Assessment Process

  Implementation of Disposition Assessment:

  • Each semester, in each block, candidates will assess themselves using the Disposition Rubric

  • New dispositions will be incorporated into the new field experience rubrics

  • Disposition self-assessments will be included as part of the interview portfolio process

  • At the end of Block 1, 3 and 5 one instructor will assess all students in the block (in consultation with the other instructors of that block)

  • Data will be collected on candidates dispositions and input into TaskStream by the Assessment Coordinator

  • An analysis of the Disposition data will be provided to the chair of the program at the beginning of each semester.

  • Candidates who receive an “Unacceptable” score in any block are on “Disposition Watch”.  A follow up letter will be sent to candidates indicating their status and the opportunities for reclaiming an acceptable condition.

    Candidate “Disposition Watch”:

·         Candidate will meet with the instructor to make a plan for improving unacceptable disposition area

·         Candidates will be assessed by a block instructor every semester until area improves

If the area or areas of weakness are not improved within 2 subsequent semesters or if a pattern of unacceptable ratings in various areas exist, the candidate will meet with department chair and involved instructors to determine action.

·         Candidate may at this time be removed from program if little or no improvement has been shown.

·         All candidates must receive acceptable ratings in all areas by the end of Block 5

Assessment of Disposition Process:

Data will be collected each semester regarding students in block 1, 3 and 5.  Data will be analyzed in terms of most successful and least successful disposition for each block.  Feedback will be solicited regarding the disposition process from the Candidate Council.  The chair will be notified of candidates who receive an Unacceptable rating in any disposition category.
