Helpful tips:
*Note- follow the Blackboard tab from above to access video tutorials
  • Assessment/Grading- It is helpful to students if you state exactly how they will be graded in the online course (will participation in online discussions be graded, etc.?)  Make your policy clear in regard to "Blackboard issues".  Many times Blackboard may go down and students are not able to submit assignments or take scheduled exams/quizzes in a timely manner.
  • Communication/Participation- Be very clear about your expectations in regard to student participation in discussion boards and response time to emails and discussion posts.  (For example: tell them 24-48 hours for responses is acceptable for weekdays, longer for weekends and holidays is generally acceptable).
  • Course Calendar/Schedule- It is very helpful for students if you include a course calendar in your syllabus or course policies section.  Your students will refer to this often as they strive to stay on track.  Ideally, the calendar should list all activities and due dates for the entire semester.
  • Netiquette- Consider including a student netiquette guide for your online course.
