Distance Education at PNC -FAQs for Faculty
- How do I get a Blackboard course created for my course?
- You don't need to do anything. Each course that is on the schedule has a course created at the beginning of the semester. Check the 'Campus Announcements' on your 'My Blackboard' page for the date the courses will be created for the next semester.
- What if I want to work on my Blackboard course before the date the courses are automatically generated?
- Call or e-mail the helpdesk and have them create a 'development' version of the course you will be teaching. You can create your course materials in that development course and then copy that course into the production version of the course after it becomes available. You can also use a development course as a template for teaching that course in the future.
- How do I create a Blackboard course that others who also teach the class can access?
- If you want to create a course shell for other faculty who also teach that course to use, you need to do the following:
- Call or e-mail the helpdesk and have them create a 'development' version of your course and give them the names of the other instructors who should have access to that course.
-The additional instructors now have access to the shell you created, and they can copy it into their own course.
- My Blackboard 'Course List' is very cluttered with courses I'm not currently teaching, but I want to keep them. How can I clean this up?
- In the Course List in Blackboard, you will see a small pencil icon at the top of the list. If you click on that icon, it will show all the courses listed on your 'My Blackboard' page. On the right side of the screen you will see a button marked 'Hide'. If you click on the button, that course will no longer show up in the Course List (and the button will change to 'Show'), but it is still available to you. If you want to see if again, just click on the 'Show' button.
- How do I remove courses from my Blackboard 'Course List' that I no longer teach, or that I don't need any more?
- To completely remove courses from Blackboard, call or e-mail the helpdesk with the appropriate information (i.e., course name, course number, section number, semester and year). If you do this, the course will no longer be available to you. Be sure that you have saved any information you want about that course.
