MERLOT (Multimedia Education Resource for Learning and Online Teaching, http://www.merlot.org) is a free collection of online learning materials from a variety of disciplines. Each resource is annotated with peer reviews, comments, or assignments.

A compilation of best practice teaching activities from the Illinois Online Network created to help instructors plan their online and hybrid courses.

A database of effective practices for distance education provided by The Sloan Consortium.

American Distance Education Consortium
ADEC is a non-profit distance education consortium developed to promote the creation and provision of high quality, economical distance education programs and services to diverse audiences.

Chronicle of Higher Education/Distance Education Section

Learning Styles and the Online Environment
Information and assessments related to learning styles as related to the online instructional environment.

Meaningful, Engaged Learning

The Node Learning Technologies Network
Non-profit organization promoting effective uses of Internet-based technologies in education and training. The Node offers learning guides and other publications on their web site.

Quality on the Line: Benchmarks for Success in Internet-Based Distance Education
A report released in March 2000 by the Institute for Higher Education Policy and commissioned by Blackboard, Inc. and the National Education Association. Six institutions participated in a Delphi study to generate a final list of 24 quality benchmarks.

The Sloan Consortium
Sloan-C offers a variety of services including certificate programs, listservs and effective practice databases in an effort to assist learning institutions improve the quality and scope of their online programs. The Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks is an online publication from Sloan-C.

Virtual Center for Online Learning Research
The Virtual Center for Online Learning Research (VCOLR) is a consortium of partners focusing on the research and development of best practices in online education, particularly in higher education. VCOLR is most directly concerned with the delivery of improvement of online education coursework over the Internet, and determining which practices may be involved in increasing the effectiveness of learning. The Journal of Interactive Online Learning is an online publication of VCOLR that focuses on theory, research, and practice of interactive online learning.

WebNet Journal
A publication of the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education, the journal focuses on Internet technologies, applications and issues.

Distance Education Clearinghouse
A comprehensive and widely recognized web site managed and maintained by the University of Wisconsin-Extension system that offers national and international distance education information as well as information from Wisconsin.

Distance Education Resources
Reports and studies related to distance education on the National Education Association web site.

Sloan-C Blended Learning
Sloan-C offers this web site to educators and administrators involved with blended and hybrid learning as a place to collect and share resources. In addition to useful resources, online seminars and discussion forums are available for the gathering and exchange of information.
