On November 11, 2010, Bob Mellin shared his many experiences, in
regard to his use of Adobe Connect. Bob
provided valuable insight from his perspective
as a faculty member. Not only does Bob
conduct class meetings in real time, but he also
records those meetings for students to access at
a later time.
On November 17, 2010, the hands-on workshop
immersed faculty participants into an Adobe
Connect session. During the virtual
portion of the workshop, they were made aware of
the many pedagogical benefits of utilizing Adobe
Connect within their courses. They were
also informed of a variety of research-based
best practices. After the virtual session,
participants then created their own meetings and
explored the many options that this software has
to offer.
Safe
Assign/ LockDown Browser
On December 6, 2010, Dr.
Jim Pula gave a detailed presentation about the
many pedagogical benefits of using the Safe
Assign and Respondus LockDown Browser
applications within his courses. Dr. Pula
explained how Safe Assign helps to ensure that a
student is submitting his or her own authentic
work through an internet scan that identifies
possible acts of plagiarism. He also
talked about how he requires his students to use
the LockDown Browser application
during an exam.
On December 9, 2010, the hands-on workshop
covered the technical procedures necessary to
utilize these two applications. Workshop
participants then discussed best practices and
how they might integrate this technology into
their teaching.
Adobe
Presenter
On January 18, 2011, Dr.
Judy Serwatka shared with faculty how she has
incorporated Adobe Presenter into her teaching.
She showed examples of how she added audio to
her PowerPoint lectures and made them available
to her students via Blackboard.
There was a follow-up hands-on
workshop that covered the pedagogy and technical
procedure of how to add audio to a PowerPoint
and upload it to Blackboard.
Respondus
On February 21,
2011, Dr. Jason Curtis shared
his experiences with using the Respondus
exam-building software among faculty
members during an afternoon presentation
in LSF 170A. Those who attended
learned of the many benefits of using
the software, specifically importing
exams created as Word documents and the
advantages of downloading publisher
testbanks.
On March 15,
2011, Dr. Mary Jane Eisenhauer shared how she has utilized the various
tools in Blackboard, primarily her
organization of course materials usign
the learning modules feature. Dr.
Eisenhauer discussed the many advantages
of using learning modules, whether one
teaches face-to-face, hybrid, or online.
