Blackboard Vista - Discussions

Post New Message

  1. Select the Discussions option under the Course Tools.
  2. Select the desired discussions.
  3. Select the Create Message button.
  4. Enter Subject: information.
  5. Enter a message.
  6. If you do not need to attach files to your assignment, skip down to step 11.
  7. Select the Add Attachments button.
  8. If the desired files have already been uploaded into your file manager, select the check mark box next to the desired files. Click the OK button. Skip down to step 10.
  9. If the desired files have not been uploaded into your file manager, select the My Computer icon.Locate your file or multiple files. Then select the file(s) (you can hold the Control key or Shift key to select multiple files) and select the Open button.
  10. If you need to attach another file, repeat steps 7-10. All files that you have successfully attached will display below the Add Attachments button.
  11. Select the Post button.

Print Message

  1. Select the Discussions option under the Course Tools.
  2. Select the desired discussions.
  3. Select the checkbox next to the desired subjects.
  4. Select the Create Printable View button.
  5. Select the Print button.
  6. If applicable, select desired print options.
  7. Once printing has completed, close the Compile Messages pop-up window.

Read Message

  1. Select the Discussions option under the Course Tools.
  2. Select the desired discussions.
  3. Select the desired message.
  4. If the message has attachments, select the attachments to view.
  5. Close pop-up window(s).

Reply to Existing Message

  1. Select the Discussions option under the Course Tools.
  2. Select the desired discussions title.
  3. Select the message that you would like to reply to.
  4. Select the Reply button.
  5. If desired, enter adifferent Subject: information..
  6. Enter a message.
  7. If you do not need to attach files to your assignment, skip down to step 12.
  8. Select the Add Attachments button.
  9. If the desired files have already been uploaded into your file manager, select the check mark box next to the desired files. Click the OK button. Skip down to step 11.
  10. If the desired files have not been uploaded into your file manager, select the My Computer icon.Locate your file or multiple files. Then select the file(s) (you can hold the Control key or Shift key to select multiple files) and select the Open button.
  11. If you need to attach another file, repeat steps 8-11. All files that you have successfully attached will display below the Add Attachments button.
  12. Select the Post button.

Save Message to File

  1. Select the Discussions option under the Course Tools.
  2. Select the desired discussions title.
  3. Select the checkbox next to the desired subjects.
  4. Select the Create Printable View button.
  5. Select the Save button.
  6. Browse to the desired location.
  7. Select the Save button.
  8. Close the Compile Messages pop-up window.

*** Instructors setup and display course content in various ways.  Therefore, if the above steps do not produce the stated results, you will need to contact your instructor for more information on their individual course content layout and structure. ***
