Blackboard Vista - Working with Journal Discussions

Post New Entry

  1. Complete the Create Topic section.
  2. Verify that you are on the Teach tab.
  3. Select the desired journal discussion title.
  4. Verify that you are in the My Journal section.
  5. Select the Create New Entry button.
  6. Enter a subject.
  7. Enter a message.
  8. If you do not need to attach files to your discussion, skip down to step 12.
  9. Select the Add Attachments button.
  10. If the desired files have already been uploaded into your file manager, Select the check mark box next to the desired files. Click the OK button. Skip down to step 11.
  11. If the desired files have not been uploaded into your file manager, select the My Computer icon.Locate your file or multiple files. Then select the file(s) (you can hold the Control key or Shift key to select multiple files) and select the Open button.
  12. All files that you have successfully attached will display below the Add Attachments button.
  13. Select the Post button.

Read Message

  1. Verify that you are on the Teach tab.
  2. Select the desired journal discussion title.
  3. Select the student whose journal you want to read.
  4. Read the journal entries.

Commenting on an Journal Entry

  1. Verify that you are on the Teach tab.
  2. Select the desired blog discussion title.
  3. Select the student whose journal you want to read.
  4. Locate the entry that you would like to comment on.
  5. Select the Comments button.
  6. Enter a message.
  7. If you do not need to attach files to your discussion, skip down to step 12.
  8. Select the Add Attachments button.
  9. If the desired files have already been uploaded into your file manager, Select the check mark box next to the desired files. Click the OK button. Skip down to step 12.
  10. If the desired files have not been uploaded into your file manager, select the My Computer icon.Locate your file or multiple files. Then select the file(s) (you can hold the Control key or Shift key to select multiple files) and select the Open button.
  11. All files that you have successfully attached will display below the Add Attachments button.
  12. Select the Post Comment button.

Forward Journal Entries

  1. Verify that you are on the Teach tab.
  2. Select the desired journal discussion title.
  3. Select the student whose journal you want to read.
  4. Locate the entry that you would like to forward.
  5. Select the Forward button.
  6. Follow the steps for sending email.

Print Messages

  1. Verify that you are on the Teach tab.
  2. Select the desired journal discussion title.
  3. Select the student whose journal you want to read.
  4. Select the checkbox next to the desired subject(s) or click the Select All button to select all the subjects.
  5. Select the Create Printable View button.
  6. If applicable, select desired print options.
  7. Once printing has completed, close the compile messages pop-up window.

Save Message to File

  1. Verify that you are on the Teach tab.
  2. Select the desired journal discussion title.
  3. Select the student whose journal you want to read.
  4. Select the checkbox next to the desired subject(s) or click the Select All button to select all the subjects.
  5. Select the Create Printable View button.
  6. Select the Save as File button.
  7. Save file to desired location.
  8. Close the compile messages pop-up window.
