Kathleen Zmuda is a graduate of Dominican College in San Rafael, CA with a BA in English Literature and an elementary teaching credential. Kathleen has studied storytelling with Master Tellers in the United States, including Donald Davis and Jay Callahan. Ms Zmuda taught every level of elementary school and as a storyteller/curriculum facilitator for 25 years has worked with every level from pre-school through University and in every kind of place from the Streets of Ireland, classroom in Switzerland, living room in Holland, storytelling clubs in Ireland, from the Episcopalean Cathedral pulpit in Milwaukee to retreats for Quakers, meeting for lawyers, endless classrooms, conferences, libraries, gatherings of counselors, educators, parents. Ms Zmuda’s specialty as a storyteller is two fold; nurturing families, students and educators in ways to spontaneously create stories and guiding classrooms and educators in using stories as a springboard for all areas of the curriculum. For example, a simple interactive story about a spider becomes the lynch pin for science, language, music, art and math in a classroom, thus integrating learning. Kathleen has written and self published two children’s books and two storytelling CD’s as well as having had scores of articles (many about travels ) published in commercial magazines and newspapers, including the national Storytelling Magazine from Jonesboro.
Interactive Story Telling |
I found that children love to get involved in storytelling by “acting out”, so I want to share information about interactive stories which get everyone involved, model how to tell and invite the children’s participation, and how to turn stories into interactive experiences.
