William DeMeo is a Developmental School Psychologist who coordinates the mental health services for the Cincinnati Public Schools’ Early Childhood Program. In addition, he has a private practice that specializes in serving children and families that other agencies are not able to serve. Bill DeMeo is a former teacher and has taught at all levels, from elementary through higher education. Bill has presented numerous workshops for a variety of organizations: Nat’l Head Start Assoc., Nat’l Assoc. for the Education of Young Children, Staff Development for Educators (SDE) and the Assoc. for Childhood Education International (ACEI), just to name a few. Bill continues to be one of the most sought after trainers for childhood professionals in the areas of mental health and brain-based learning, utilizing his extensive experience to present practical and entertaining workshops. He has authored several books.

 

Brain-Based Learning: What Does New Brain Research Tell Us About How
Children Really Learn?

This presentation will assist teachers and administrators involved with children in the latest research regarding how the brain learns. This workshop will explore brain-based learning strategies, the negative effects of stress on learning, the principles of brain development and the roles of emotions in learning. Students of all backgrounds, with every imaginable history of failure, or every age and attitude of discouragement can and have succeeded with the brain compatible learning approach. Participants will be able to use these strategies immediately when returning to their classrooms to help the most
challenging child to develop to their fullest potential.

Expected Outcomes:
• Participants will be introduced to the latest research on how the brain really learns.
• Participants will be able to identify the difference between passive and active learning.
