Purdue University North Central’s Travel Study Programs provide a unique experience to students. Realize your destination in a way that is unique and entirely different and discover the special privileges that are reserved for those who are accompanied by experts or researchers. Visit sites that are off the beaten path and relive the experiences as only those who are “in-the-know” can relate them. Experience destinations personally and gain a deeper understanding with every step.
From its humble beginnings during the Revolutionary War to the major tourist attraction it is today, Washington DC serves as a symbol of freedom for millions of Americans. This course will explore the history of this great American city while examining the political and cultural movements it has undergone over the past three centuries. Class activities will include visits to the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court, giving students an inside look at the inner workings of politics today; viewing the most important document in American history – the Declaration of Independence at the National Archives; tours of various Smithsonian Museums to discover the artifacts, stories, and people who helped build this city and our nation; and cultural events that can only be experienced in Washington DC.

Program Fees: In addition to the cost of tuition and fees, students are responsible for a $650. course fee.
The program fee includes: 5-nights in a 2-room hotel suite with full kitchen. Based on triple occupancy at Avenue Suites in Georgetown (formerly Washington Suites), continental breakfast each day, class materials, student insurance, Metro Card, 2 group meals, entrance to Mt. Vernon. Student is responsible for their own transportation costs to and from Washington, DC, remainder of meals and personal incidental costs. Discover the splendor of the most rugged mountains in Appalachia! The Great Smoky Mountains preserve a rich cultural tapestry of Southern Appalachian history. This extraordinary travel/study course brings you into contact with the ecosystem of a temperate forest where plant life, sparkling mountain streams and breath-taking vistas are your classroom. Explore the wildlife, plant life, ecology, geology, and environmental concepts unique to the Smoky Mountains. Step into a world of breathtaking wonder and beauty!
