For the 12th day of Wellness, we're going to look at the "inspiration" for the name of this e-program. The PNC Christmas Price Index® shows the current cost for one set of each of the gifts given in the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas." It began 29 years ago when the chief economist at PNC Bank decided to figure out how much it would cost to buy each of the gifts. Little did he know, he was starting an economic tradition that continues to this day.
The PNC Christmas Price Index® is similar to the Consumer Price Index, which measures changes in prices of goods and services like housing, food, clothing, transportation, and
more that reflect the spending habits of the average American.
The goods and services in the PNC Christmas Price Index® are far more whimsical. And most years, the price changes closely mirror those in t
he Consumer Price Index. It's a fun way to measure consumer spending and trends in the economy. So even if "pipers piping" or "geese a-laying" didn't make your gift list, you can still learn a lot by checking out how their prices have gone up and down over the years.

Activity for Today: Visit PNC Christmas Price Index Express 2012, a fun interactive website, that explains how much everything costs for the gifts listed in "The 12 Days of Christmas." Note: If you are experiencing difficulties viewing, try a different web browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc) and go to PNC Bank's website: www.pnc.com. Then click on the rotating screen that says "PNC Christmas Price Index Gift Hunt 2012" which has a red background.
Mark on your Calendar: The Christmas Price Index for 2012 AND the True Cost of Christmas for 2012 which is the cumulative cost of all the gifts when you count each repetition in the song - so it reflects the cost of 364 gifts . Note: You can still find the answers without doing today's activity.
