CSLL

The Center for Service Learning & Leadership helps to foster the academic success and civic responsibility of PNC students through experiential education and service engagement activities. These activities include service learning projects embedded within courses, community service opportunities and leadership programs. The Center for Service Learning & Leadership also partners with other campus departments and community organizations to develop and offer excellent learning and engagement opportunities for the PNC community. The Center for Service Learning & Leadership office has moved across the hall to LSF 27 - stop by and visit us!

PNC receives Carnegie Foundation Elective Classification for Community Engagement

Purdue University North Central was selected by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for its 2010 Community Engagement Elective Classification. The Community Engagement Classification recognized the campus for its dedication to community engagement documented in the institution's mission and culture, and with the leadership, resources and practices to support dynamic and noteworthy community engagement. The Carnegie Foundation cites those institutions where teaching, learning and scholarship engage faculty, students and community in mutually beneficial and respectful collaboration. Purdue North Central was recognized for addressing community-identified needs, deepening students' civic and academic learning, enhancing community well-being, and enriching the institution.  Click here to read the full article!

Two PNC Faculty Members Receive Funding from Indiana Campus Compact

Dr. Carin Chung, assistant professor of Computer & Information Technology, has been awarded a Scholarship of Engagement Grant from Indiana Campus Compact for the Spring 2012 semester. The grant will allow Chuang and the students in her Systems Analysis and Design Methods class to partner with the Westville Area Chamber of Commerce (WACC) to develop a new information system housed in a Microsoft Access database. Dr. Dominic Micer, assistant professor of English, has been awarded a Scholarship of Engagement Grant from Indiana Campus Compact for the Spring 2012 semester. The grant will allow Micer and the students in his Technical Writing class to partner with the Office of Learning and Technology to prepare technical reports on new and emerging instructional technology software.

Washington DC Travel Study Course Offered

Purdue University North Central students and community members have the unique opportunity to travel to Washington D.C., from March 4 to 9, 2011 as part of a course that will explore this great American city and focus on the broader concept of citizenship. Students wishing to enroll in IDIS 49100: Washington DC: The History Politics and Culture that Shaped Our Nation should do so through the Banner Registration System and contact the Office of Continuing Education to complete the enrollment process. The course is comprised of 3 pre-trip meetings, a week of travel in Washington DC, and 1 post-trip meeting.

Planned activities while in DC include a private meeting with the Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter; a private tour of Capital Hill will be provided by Sen. Richard Lugar's Office; observation of Congress; lunch at the Senate Dining Room; tours of the Pentagon, the National Archives, Arlington Cemetery, the Library of Congress and Mount Vernon; and ample time to explore many of the Smithsonian Institution’s museums.
