AmeriCorps Service Engagement Corps and AmeriCorps Interfaith Corps
The Center for Service Learning & Leadership (CSLL) at Purdue University North Central (PNC) currently has fifteen (15) Service Engagement Corps program positions and two (2) Interfaith Service Corps program positions filled by PNC students. This program is a partnership between Purdue University North Central (PNC), Indiana Campus Compact (ICC) and the State of Indiana’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives designed to engage Indiana college students in a year of AmeriCorps service. Participating students who commit to, and complete 300 hours of service between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012 will be eligible to receive a $1,175 AmeriCorps Education Award. AmeriCorps Education Awards can be used to repay qualified student loans, or to pay the cost of attending a qualified institution of higher education.
SE Corps Member Requirements
- SE Corps Members will commit to completing 300 hours of service between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012 with a qualified campus and/or community organization(s). The Center for Service Learning & Leadership staff will help to identify partner community organizations for those Members needing assistance.
- Members must serve 75 of the required 300 hours with one (1) designated community partner organization. The remaining 225 hours can be completed by serving a variety of campus and community organizations.
- Members must serve 150 of the required 300 hours with community partner organization(s).
- All service hours must be approved by the SE Corps Host Site Supervisor in the Center for Service Learning & Leadership.
- SE Corps Members will also become an advocate for community engagement, Purdue University North Central, the Center for Service Learning & Leadership, Indiana Campus Compact and AmeriCorps by participating in various leadership and professional development activities.
- Members must attend 3 events sponsored by the Center for Service Learning & Leadership.
- Members must attend 2 Civic Reflection sessions.
- It is expected that Service Engagement Corps Members will be self-motivated, dependable and able to work independently as well as a part of a team.
Dates of Service
The 2011-2012 Service Engagement Corps and Interfaith Corps Programs runs from September 1, 2011 to August 31, 2012. SE Corps Members and Interfaith Corps Members must commit to completing 300 hours of service during these dates.
Eligibility Requirements
Service Engagement Corps Members and Interfaith Corps Members must be:
- Must be 17 years or older
- High School Graduate
- Enrolled at Purdue University North Central (either as a full-time or part-time student)
- In Good Academic Standing with Purdue University North Central
