Constitution of the Purdue North Central

Psychology Club

 

  1. Name

-         The name of this organization, previously called the Psychology Club, herein after referred to as the PNC Psych Club.

 

  1. Purpose

-         This organization has two (2) primary functions.

                                                               i.            The social function aspect of this Club is to provide a constructive social gathering to further the relationships between the students and the faculty by involving both groups in activities associated with the advancement of Psychology as a science, and Purdue University North Central.

                                                             ii.            The academic function of this Club is to provide a forum for the advancement of the field of Psychology with regards to education, research and practice.

 

  1. Membership

-         Membership is open to all current students of Purdue University North Central, in good standing, interested in the field of Psychology regardless of age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, or national and ethnic origin.

-         All members of the faculty are encouraged to join.

-         To be considered a member with voting privileges said member would be required to complete a rudimentary registration form, attached hereto.

 

  1. Officers

-         President

The President shall have completed at least one course in Psychology in order to be eligible for this position. The President shall preside over general meetings of the Club. The President has the power to appoint special committees subject to majority approval of the current members. It is also the responsibility of the President to attend, or appoint a delegate to attend, Presidents Roundtable sessions regularly.

 

-         Vice President

The Vice President shall have completed at least one course in Psychology in order to be eligible for this position. The Vice President shall preside over general meetings in the event the President is ineligible to attend. The Vice President will also be responsible for all matters concerning Club public relations.  These responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, producing flyers and generating other promotional materials.  It is also the responsibility of the Vice President to assist the President with his/her administrative responsibilities.

 

-         Secretary

The Secretary shall keep an accurate record of the meetings of the Executive Board and general meetings of the PNC Psych Club. It is also the responsibility of the secretary to perform all clerical duties associated with the office of Secretary.  These duties include, but are not limited to, generating all emails to Club members and updating the Club’s website.

 

-         Treasurer

The Treasurer shall keep accurate records of all financial accounts associated with the PNC Psych Club, including deposits and expenditures.  The Treasurer is also responsible to investigating, initiating and monitoring all fundraising activities conducted on behalf of the Club.

 

  1. Officer Removal

-         Any member of the PNC Psych Club has the power, at any time to bring forth a Motion to dismiss any Club Officer. If any such Motion is presented, a Club meeting will be held within two (2) weeks at which time the motioning Club member shall present his/her evidence showing good cause to remove the Club Officer(s) in question.

-         The Officer being reviewed has the right to present contrary evidence in his/her defense.

-         A show-of-hands vote must be taken after any evidence has been presented.  The Officer can only be removed if a clear majority of members present carries the Motion.

 

  1. Meetings

-         Regular Meetings

                                                               i.            Meetings are to be held twice a month on the dates agreed upon by the majority of the membership body.

                                                             ii.            Meetings must be conducted using Robert’s Rules of Order.

 

-         Special Circumstances

                                                               i.            In the event Purdue University North Central is closed due to weather or a special event the next Club meeting will be conducted on the next agreed upon alternative date.

                                                             ii.            Special meetings may be called for by any member of the Club at any general meeting.

 

-         Voting

                                                               i.            A quorum must be met before any business can be voted upon regarding Club finances or specific amendments to the Club constitution. In the event a majority of the Club membership is not in attendance, the business being voted upon shall be presented at the next regularly scheduled business meeting.

                                                             ii.            Voting shall be conducted by either a show of hands or any other convenient method during all scheduled meetings.

                                                            iii.             In the event a member is not in attendance their vote will be forfeited for that particular meeting.

                                                           iv.            Voting for Club Officers will take place during the first scheduled meeting in April or by the second week of April, whichever should occur first, or in the event of removal of any Club Officer.

                                                             v.            Voting on all other Club business shall occur as needed.

 

  1. Finances

-         The PNC Psych Club shall use its funds solely to promote and conduct social, academic, service events, and operating costs.

 

  1. Advisor

-         The Faculty Advisor shall be a professor of the Psychology Department. The position of the Faculty Advisor is a non-student member of the organization, with all rights and privileges therein, with the exception of holding office.

-         In the event the Faculty Advisor is unable to attend a regularly scheduled Club meeting, the Faculty Advisor may assign a proctor to attend in his/her place to monitor any Club meeting.

 

  1. Amendments

-         A quorum must approve all amendments and ratifications of the Club Constitution.

 

  1.  Termination

-         After the PNC Psych Club is officially dissolved for a minimum of six (6) months by PNC administration due to a lack of interest, all funds in the Club account shall be distributed equally between the Harmony House and CASA programs located in LaPorte, Indiana.

-         Any personal items belonging to Club members must be removed from the Club Office within thirty (30) days of the Club being dissolved.

-         Any unused office supplies should be donated to the Club Workroom for use by all PNC organizations.
