Psychology Club Minutes

September 12, 2005- 2:25 p.m.

 

Motion was made, seconded and carried to call the meeting to order.

President’s Report:

 

Purdue Pride Week booth was a great success.  Many thanks to all who worked at booth, gave of their time, ideas and energy.  Dawn will email additional prospective members who showed  interest in the Psych Club during Purdue Pride Week. We earned $25.00 which will be donated to aid the survivors of the Katrina disaster.  All clubs are getting together in two weeks to decide what and how they will aid the disaster victims. 

 

Annette was able to deposit her $100.00 from photo album sales in spring to the Psychology account.

 

Joe obtained a quote from Graphic ??Inc. on the club t-shirts.  For quantities of  24-49 the cost is $6.00 a piece.  For quantities of 1-23 the cost is $8.00 a piece.  This company will donate the set up charge.

 

Annette will email Joe to find out sizes available and content of t-shirts. Motion was made and seconded to order the t-shirts, which will be blue with white printing.

 

Mary Beth Mitchell has agreed to do the in-service on applying for graduate school. This is tentatively scheduled for October 20, 2005, Thursday, at 5:00 p.m. in LSF #2 (across from the bookstore).  Patricia K. has agreed to do promotion with fliers and posters. Camie will post all upcoming info on the Psych Club website.   Camie/Annette will e-mail all professors and students of this event. Annette will arrange for  serving of beverages and cookies.   Motion made, seconded and carried to approve this event by membership.

 

Annette reported in Joe’s absence, that the current balance of our Psych Club account is $353.04.

 

Fundraisers  - Annette will nominate a committee to work on fundraisers.  Pat is interested in serving in this capacity.

 

Dr. Scipes update: Annette did talk with Dr. Scipes about his wife coming to campus to speak to students about her field of interest, working with traumatized children all over the world.  Possibly hold this event in LSF #2.   Date to be scheduled later this

semester.

 

Vice-President’s Report:

 

Camie is working on the Psych Club website.  Minutes of each meeting will be posted here, when they are approved by membership along with club events, fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, club constitution, links to APA, etc.

 

Volunteer Opportunities:

 

Dawn presented a list of volunteer activities in which the club membership could participate.   The membership approved setting up a box for donations for the RSVP organization, collecting yarns, fabrics, etc.  Dawn will get approval from appropriate people for box donations.  Camie has agreed to make fliers for advertising purposes once she gets full details from Dawn, who will call RSVP for particulars.

 

Other opportunities include: Prevent Child Abuse in Porter County, stuffing envelopes and placing brochures for them.   Meals-on-Wheels need drivers. 

 

Club membership approved working with the Special Olympics in Fishers, Indiana on October 22, 2005 all day.
