March 1, 2006 - Wednesday

6:00 p.m. -  (Mitchell’s office & LSF 60)

In attendance:

Jeanne M. Sanders                                                  Mary Beth Mitchell

Barb Johnson                                                            Cindy Kuehn

Marcie Briggs                                                            Joe Semala

Stephanie Ohime                                                      Kristina Ray

Michelle Morris                                                          Rori Peterson

Dawn Harzula                                                            Angie Kime

The meeting was called to order by Jeanne, in Annette’s absence, at 6:05 p.m.

Agenda for the meeting was approved by all attendees.

 President’s Report:

Jeanne read the recent e-mail received from Psi Chi, regarding the current status of our application.  Annette received this e-mail on February 21, 2006, stating that Virginia Andreoli Mathie, Psi Chi, would be “sending reminders to the Council and hopefully the ballots would be turned in soon.”  She stated she will advise Dr. Urschel by e-mail once she knows final outcome.

 Secretary’s Report:

The minutes from the February 16, 2006 meeting were submitted and approved.

 Old Business:

 Research:

Introduction:  Joe Semala is scheduled to meet with Dr. Joanne Urschel on Thursday, March 2, 2006.

PNC Bookstore Survey, done by Debbie was available for all members at this meeting.

 Methods:

Rori submitted the methods packets to all attendees.  Kristina had met with Beth Rudnick and received complete schedule of classes.  A long discussion was held regarding the appropriate method for choosing classes in a random sample. Mary Beth, Kristin and Rori will get together on Monday, March 13, 2006  to further discuss methods implementation.

We will want to have our research sample reflect a random number of classes and majors, of both day and evening classes. We will need club members to assist in

administering surveys.  We will need Dr. Pula’s letter to all professors letting them know of survey by Psychology Club and communication will need to be done, as to dates/times of survey, so that no tests are taking place in selected classes.

 Literature Review:

Dawn has received all of her literature review sources and is scheduled to meet with Dr. Urschel, Mary Beth and Annette, tentatively on March 13,  to pursue the next step in this process.

 Surveys:

The new target date for completion of the random surveys is mid- April.  We will need to work towards this goal date.  All club members wishing to participate in administering of surveys, please see Annette.

All club members who are administering surveys will need to be educated in presenting the survey, its completion method, etc. so that there is uniformity in its administration.

Students in classes taking survey will be advised if they have filled out form in a previous class, they should NOT fill out another form.

Mary Beth assures us that calculation of our survey results can and will be done on the computer, as much as possible.

 Questions:

Dr. Urschel: Do we need to get IRB approval before administering the survey?

Who is doing data analysis and conclusion of research?

 Conclusion:

Mary Beth Mitchell, took over meeting  (when Jeanne had to leave for class) at 6:40 p.m.  She demonstrated on the white board the method for gaining a random sampling of students for the research.

 Respectfully submitted,

Jeanne M. Sanders, Secretary
