Psychology Club Minutes January 12, 2006- 7:00 p.m. In attendance:
Annette Meadows Camie Tyler
President’s Report: Annette extended thanks to everyone who had worked on the Gifts of Love Program for December, 2005, especially Kristina Ray who chaired the event. It was a definite success. Vice President’s Report: Website has been updated to reflect the upcoming honey bee sale. Treasurer’s Report: Joe Semala submitted a balance sheet for debits/credits for Psychology Club. Our end of December balance is $137.63, but does not yet reflect the printing/photocopying charges for October, November and December, 2005. Secretary’s Report: Jeanne submitted individual photos of members/sponsor to club for posting on our bulletin board, along with photos from our last two meetings with Christmas Party, December 7, and November 16, tree-trimming activity. Old Business: Kristina gave a report on Gifts of Love Project and how the event was accomplished. Kristina, Camie and Debbie were able to go to Madison Center for the distribution of the gifts. Many businesses have agreed to do this project next year, i.e. Hobby Lobby, Little Caesars. Meijer and WalMart gave donations also. We will revise the labeling system for the gifts next year, to facilitate distribution of the gifts properly. Our grant for $250.00 can be easily renewed since the paperwork is already on file. Annette submitted an idea to make a group art project with the children next year. (She has a friend who does art therapy and would be interested in participating). Kristine has a friend who would like to adopt some children for his business and donate gifts to them. We will retrieve the ages of the children and their level of functional development before purchasing gifts next year. Camie suggested donating group cottage gifts to Christian Haven in Wheatfield, and adopting more cottages next year. Psychology Meeting Times: Jeanne will make up schedule for Psychology Meetings throughout spring semester and e-mail all members. If any member is unable to attend one of the Psychology Club meetings, he/she should notify Jeanne, the secretary to receive a copy of the previous club meeting minutes. Mentoring Members: The club will be having many members graduate this spring, so it is important, if anyone is interested in being an officer next year, they should get a hold of that officer in order to be mentored for that position. Each officer will submit a written description of their duties for the club’s record. New Business: Research: Annette stated that the research project for this semester will be discussed at a special meeting next Thursday, January 19, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in LSF 2. The topic will be “The social aspect of the retention rate of students on the PNC Campus”. Mary Beth Mitchell will be assisting Joanne Urschel in the research. All club members are encouraged to participate in some aspect of the Proposal, which will be written by the club members. The students will be divided into committees to write specific aspects of the Proposal. After Mary Beth and Joanne have edited this Proposal, it will be submitted to the IRB Board in Lafayette for approval to proceed with research study. Please honor your commitment to be involved in this research project. Everyone will have an assignment. Honey Sale: Jeanne will chair the honey sale, as her husband is supplying the honey for this sale. Annette made up yellow order forms to take orders before the 2-day campus sales event on January 24, and January 25, at 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. outside the cafeteria. We will have a honey tasting event offered at that time to encourage sales. Everyone is to get their orders to Jeanne via e-mail at TwinJeanne@hotmail.com on Sunday, January 22, 2005 so that she knows how much honey to bring to this campus wide sales event. A schedule was passed around for club members to volunteer to sit at honey table on January 24 and 25, 2006 from 11:00 to 1:00 pm. Photo albums will also be sold at this event. Advisor Position: Since our sponsor, Dr. Joanne Urschel will be leaving PNC after spring semester, Dr. Jablon has offered to step in temporarily for Psi Chi charter application purposes. A vote was made, and seconded to invite Mary Beth Mitchell to be the Club sponsor. This was passed unanimously. New Members: All new Psych Club members need to fill out a membership form, which Annette has. Call Club Out is to take place Thursday, January 19, 2006 -11-1 p.m. in LSF 144. Please wear your T-shirts that day to help advertise our Club. In-Service for Spring: Annette suggested an in-service, from an actual student’s perspective, of the process of applying to Grad School would be very helpful. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Jeanne M. Sanders Secretary
