Psychology Club Minutes

November 16, 2005 - LSF 19 - 7:00 p.m.

 

Motion was made, seconded and carried to call the meeting to order.

Today’s agenda was approved by all members.

                                   

Treasurer’s Report:

 

According to the October statement, our new balance is $199.34, after deducting payment for club T-shirts.  Treasurer Joe Semala will call Beth Rudnick for find out details of donating diapers for Katrina survivors and where to take them.

 

Secretary’s Report:

 

Motion was made by Jeanne, seconded by Leslee and carried to accept the minutes of the October 31, 2005 meeting. 

 

Old Business:

 

Psi Chi:

Joanne will check on status of our application to Psi Chi.

 

Club History Book:

Annette suggested having a club history book to include meeting minutes, agendas, photos, newspaper articles, and any papers that have been submitted on club activities.

  

Psychology Club Library:

A request will be submitted to K.R.Johnson for special area for psych club materials, textbooks, resources and journals. Some journals have already been donated.  A new addition of the DMS IV manual would be a great addition to the library.                        

 

Community Service Projects:

Gifts of Love Program

 

Kristina Ray is heading up this project and is currently procuring details of gender, size and ages of children.  The Madison Center  along with 8 residents from Christian Haven, per Ron Goodacre will be the recipients of the “Gifts of Love Program”,  as Porter Starke has decided not to participate.

Annette did submit a grant to underwrite some of the costs of these gifts. Also each club member will be asked to take a formal letter from PNC to 3 businesses soliciting their support.

 

Each club member has been asked to submit a short informational piece (to be placed on a small scroll) on a holiday custom from specified religions/groups, along with a small game, and symbol representing that group.

 

An e-mail will be sent to all club members to submit their theme assignments for approval by Camie.  Once approved, then members can make 50 scrolls for the gifts.

 

December 7, Weds night at 7:00 pm. will be set aside to wrap these gifts by all the Psychology Club members.  A holiday party will be held at the same gathering for all club members.

 

The gifts will be delivered during the week of finals, December 12-16, 2005.

 

Fundraiser Ideas:

 

Discussion was held on the remaining picture albums which the club has for sale.  A motion was made, seconded and carried to have the campus bookstore sell the photo albums, and take their percentage off the top.

 

Jeanne suggested a honey sale for the spring semester.  Jeanne and her husband, Gary, will sell their honey to the Psychology Club for $3.00/one lb, and $4.50/two lb containers.   The Psychology Club will decide what the profit margin will be at a later date.  The date for the fundraiser will also be determined later. Samples of honey on crackers will be used at the sales promotions.

 

New Business:

 

Psych Club Office:

LSF is being renovated in the Spring semester.  All our Psychology materials will be housed in #61, PNC Advisor’s office, during the renovation.

 

Research Topic:

Discussion was held on the research topic to be chosen.  Motion was made, seconded and carried to choose the topic of retention as relating to college students.  Mary Beth Mitchell is currently doing a similar topic for her doctoral thesis and has agreed to assist in any way necessary.  The research will be undertaken only by Psychology club members and will be published in the Social Science Journal.

Mary Beth, Annette, Camie and Dr. Urschel will meet together to decide exact what angles of retention will be studied.   Once the topic has been narrowed down, Jeanne, the club secretary, will e-mail all club members, who will then be able to find one(1) Internet source material to bring to the next club meeting.

 

Club Pictures:

Club members are asked to wear their new blue T-shirts all day on Wednesday, December 7, 2005.  Hopefully, we can take a club photograph at the Psych Club meeting that night.

 

Christmas Tree:

We are going to decorate the Psychology Club tree on campus, using the theme items from our “Gifts of Love” Program. Each club member will be asked to bring several of their specific item to place on the tree. Annette has offered to make banners for the tree.

 

New Members:

Annette passed around registration forms for our new club members to fill out and  club will keep on file. 

 

Future of Club, Mentoring New Members:

Annette encouraged anyone present to ask for mentoring if they were interested in any of the officer positions of the Psychology Club for next year.  Elections will be held in April, 2006.
