Kent Lange received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Butler University, Indianapolis, in 1969.  He received a Master of Science Degree in Biology from St. Mary’s College (Now St. Mary’s University) in Winona, Minnesota in 1975.  He has taken numerous classes and attended numerous seminars in the biological area since then.  Lange taught biology and advanced biology in the Michigan City Area Schools at Rogers and Michigan City High School.  He retired from teaching in 2001 after 32 and one-half years.  From  2001 until 2003 Lange was the director of the Parent Information Resource Center for Indiana and Director of the Parents As Teachers Program at Dunebrook Prevent Child Abuse La Porte County.  In the fall of 2003 he accepted a position at Purdue University North Central in the Biology/Chemistry Department in the School of Science.  He has taught courses in Freshman Biology and in Human Anatomy and Physiology.  He has taught the Human Anatomy course for the past six years.  The class uses cadavers and puts PNC in the position as the only undergraduate school in Indiana that offers cadaver dissection.  The cadaver program was started by Dr. Rich Hengst who is now working in the Graduate Program at PNC.  

 

The Wonders of Early Brain Development

The presentation will look at the formation of the brain during and after the mother’s pregnancy, influences on that development, problems that can arise, and what parents can do before and after a baby is born to provide the best possible environment for a healthy nervous system for their child.  The various parts of the brain and how they function will be stressed as well as the importance of brain wiring in development.
