Barbara Fernandez Gustin, MA, is the current: Director for the School City of Hammond Head Start program. She has 20 years of experience with Head Start in various capacities and 20+ years inthe field of early childhood. Barb has participated in numerous seminars and workshops, including: guest lecturer at Purdue University Calumet's Behavioral Sciences/Early Childhood Conference, co-chairperson for the Northwest Indiana Early Childhood Conference and chairperson for 1st Kids Board of Directors (Northwest Indiana First Steps).

School Readiness: What it Means for Children, Families and Schools

The term “school readiness” means more than children writing their names, counting to 20 and knowing the letters of the alphabet before they enter kindergarten.  Learn what school readiness really means and how children, their families and the schools they will attend can be “ready” for kindergarten entry.
