In the event of a tornado warning for our area, the siren on the roof of Schwarz Hall is activated by the LaPorte County Emergency Management System, which simultaneously activates our internal emergency alerting system.
Speakers located throughout campus buildings will emit a siren alert tone followed by a pre-recorded message that says:
"May I have your attention please. A tornado warning has been issued by the LaPorte County Emergency Management System for our campus and surrounding area. Proceed immediately to the designated shelter area in the basement of your building. Stay away from all exterior doors and windows. Please do not leave the shelter area until an all clear is announced. Repeating, a tornado warning has been issued for the immediate area. Immediately exit your classroom or work area and proceed to the basement of your building. Stay away from all exterior doors and windows."
During tornado warnings, Campus Police monitor information sources to determine when to issue the all clear. This all clear message will be announced using the internal emergency alerting system for everyone to return to their classrooms and work areas.
If you have any questions, please contact Chief Robert Gaekle at extension 5220.
