Aradise
Rising is a
collaborative work with fellow sculptors John Bannon and S.
Thomas Scarff. The piece suggests that "paradise" is
yet attainable on one's life journey.
Michael
Young's Night Landing is an aluminum and neon sculpture that
looks like the Chicago skyline as a plane approaches it. Its
yellow neon creates a glow at night, emphasizing particular
aspects of the piece not seen by day. Although the grid-like
structure has a relatively ordered sameness, it conceals the
city in its interstices, which is really like a complex
organism.
Young
will serve again on the faculty of PNC's Super Summer, teaching
sculpture. Young's work is created in one of the only
neon/sculpture studios in the Midwest.
