'Aradise
Rising is a
collaborative work with fellow sculptors Michael Young and John
Bannon. The piece suggests that "Paradise" is yet
attainable on one's life journey.
The
bronze Geisha
Rose by
Scarff depicts a feminine form suggesting the peace of a
flower.
S.
Thomas Scarff's Rainbow Flyer uses bronze, aluminum and neon
elements to create an energized form that takes on a distinctly
different character, day and night. It poses a challenge to the
senses: that one can fly through a rainbow and simultaneously
see it - which one can't. Its placement in front of the
Technology Building seems natural both because of its scale and
high-tech lighting, which dominate the darkness dramatically.
Windfighter,
which debuted at Pier Walk, is a strong statement of victory.
The displaying of the American flag is apropos the events of
September 11, 2001.
Scarff
is the curator-in-residence at PNC, and curator of this show. He
has a number of other sculptures throughout Michiana, including
Centura, at the Michigan City Public Library and A Light Unto
All Nations, at Sinai Temple, in Michigan City.
