Odyssey 2003

John Adduci

John Adduci's Wacko, made of the artist's trademark ground aluminum, portrays a depiction of a South China Sea pirate.

Odysseus has continued his heroic journey through uncertain waters. The sculpture floats in our pond, "protected" by two swans. Its brushed aluminum surface takes full advantage its environs of seasons change, and day and night lighting.

Adduci's third piece in this year's exhibit is Running Arch, which simultaneously makes a very bold and humorous statement on the highway. The arch resembles a Roman arch of triumph "on the run," or "truckin" as has been observed. With an exaggerated foot forward, its size and presence in brushed aluminum is worth more than a quick look from Highway 421. The arch form is highly accessible because of its familiarity in the world of functional form, making it a standout.
