Young's Night Landing is an aluminum and neon sculpture that
looks like the Chicago skyline as a plane approaches it. Its
yellow neon creates a glow at night, emphasizing particular
aspects of the piece not seen by day. Although the grid-like
structure has a relatively ordered sameness, it conceals the
city in its interstices, which is really like a complex
organism.
Young
will serve again on the faculty of PNC's Super Summer, teaching
sculpture. Young's work is created in one of the only
neon/sculpture studios in the Midwest.
