David
Nelson has created a piece, specifically for the site in which
it resides. Widow's Watch, his vertical construction of wood, is
topped with a collection of pieces from the natural physical
environment - wood fallen from the trees at PNC - artifacts of
human life, and even personal artifacts reminiscent of Nelson's
childhood growing up near the waters of Lake Michigan. As a
child, Nelson sought refuge in this place where his curiosity
was rewarded. As an adult, he finds that those emotions and
intellect coalesce to nurture his work.
Nelson
teaches in the wood-sculpting department of the School of the
Art Institute, in Chicago.
